17th May 2020 - London

Join us for 2020’s celebration of 17th May – Norway’s national day. As previous years, we are all set for a lovely day out in Southwark Park celebrating Norway and Norwegians. With the big day falling on a Sunday we’re looking forward to a fantastic celebration complete with a parade, marching band, live music and speeches – entertainment for the old and the young, delicious Norwegian food and a rendition or two of Ja Vi Elsker, of course.

17th May in London

17th May in London has been going for several years, all thanks to the hard work from our committee, from volunteers and generous sponsors – and of course, thanks to everyone who joins us on the day and makes it a wonderful celebration.

17th May in London is all about creating a little bit of Norway for the day – and has come to be a great day out for the whole family. From face painting, hot dogs and ice cream for the youngest, to live music, brunch, bubbles and cake for the rest there is something for everyone and we look forward to seeing you.

Why 17th May?

17th of May is celebrated to commemorate the date Norway’s constitution was written – following 400 years of being in union with Denmark. In 1814, the union was dissolved, and Norway’s autonomy and national pride started to grow. It is one of the most important celebrations of the year for Norwegians; both in Norway and in ex-pat communities across the world.
